Travelling to greece, please help!?

I am planning on taking a trip to greece at the end of the year, and have started organsing the details now. Just wondering if there is any city, town, monument, etc that you would reccommend visiting?! I am also including a cruise through some of th greek island's including Crete. Any place I should definitely stop off at? Thanks guys:)
