Moving to Townsville Australia from a small beach town called Waihi Beach in New Zealand?

ive never been to townsville but have researched it a bit and like the fact that it is a city but a small one and not too flash cause im a small town girl, i have been to cairns before, thought it would be alot better than it was - mount maunganui in new zealand is way way better! i like the fact that townsville isnt as touristy, so does that mean it isnt as expensive to eat out, go out etc? and ive heard it gets really humid? i love the heat but is the humidheat really that bad? i would love to get hold of any nzders livin in townsville to help me out - thanks
