Is verbal abuse towards children legal in the state of New Jersey?

I was wondering if verbal abuse towards children was legal in the state of New Jersey. By verbal abuse towards children, I mean swearing, making rude comments, and in general, making a child feel very bad and hurting his/her feelings to the point of say, crying, all through words. I thought about this because persistent physical abuse of children (to the point of visible signs of abuse) is definitely illegal, but then where does persistent verbal abuse to children fall in legality? Also, is verbal abuse towards children legal or illegal in any other state? Please note, I am only asking because of the habits of some extremely strict or inconsiderate parents who resort to physical or verbal abuse of a child and I would like to know if the constant verbal abuse of a child is legal. Thank you for understanding and thank you for your answers in advance.
